Jeremy Groce

Vice President - Funeral Director

Jeremy is the founder of Triad, Midstate, and Piedmont Cremation & Funeral Service, as well as DART transport. He was homeschooled in the Alamance County area, where he spent most of his life, also known fondly as his old stomping grounds. He was hired as a funeral director apprentice not long after high school, graduating from Fayetteville Technical Community College with a degree in Funeral Directing in 2012, and after, a Mortuary Science Funeral Services degree. Jeremy set out to make funeral arrangements affordable while still giving excellent service. His drive and dedication to the companies and families he has served is known throughout the community.

Jeremy works daily with his mom, Leanne; sister, Shanell; significant other, Nichole, and stepson Tyler. He is also a stepdad to a younger son, Anthony; and Dad to the company’s two grief support pups, Lucy and Tubbs. When not working, Jeremy loves to go boating out on the lake at his home; traveling; and working out. He is also a lifelong car enthusiast.

Tyler Flynn

Funeral Director

Tyler was hired as a transport driver for Triad Cremation & Funeral Service and DART transport 2017. He signed on as a funeral apprentice in 2021. Tyler graduated from Western Alamance High School, and later received an Associates Degree from Alamance Community College in Arts. He graduated from Fayetteville Technical Community College with a Funeral Directing degree. Tyler is known to serve his families with compassion and care. He enjoys working with his Mom and Stepdad, Nichole and Jeremy; aunt, Shanell; and grandma, Leanne. When not working he enjoys golfing, working out, and fast cars. Tyler also enjoys spending time with family, friends and his girlfriend.

Alex Owens

Funeral Director

Alex started with Nicholson Cremation & Funeral in August of 2024 as a Funeral Director. He is a Stokes County native and lives in Walnut Cove, NC. Alex attended South Stokes High School and graduated in 2020 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, obtaining a BA in Mathematics. He became a Licensed Funeral Director in July of 2024, after serving as a Provisional Funeral Director. Alex loves being in a profession where he can help people when they need it the most.

Alex married the love of his life, Sloan, in August of 2024 and they live together with their dog, Winston, and their cat, Aspen. He and Sloan are members of Germanton Baptist Church and love serving in the mission field. Alex loves to stay active by playing golf, disc golf, and men’s softball. He is thankful for the support of his family and friends in his life’s journey.

Nichole Smyth

Nichole Smyth

Outreach Director

Nichole started with Triad Cremation & Funeral Service in 2017 as an Administrative Coordinator and Notary Public, later also operating in the capacity of Crematory Manager. She was born in New York, later relocating to North Carolina and attending Walter Williams High School and Guilford Technical Community College. She is currently the company’s Outreach Coordinator building strong community ties in Alamance, Randolph, and Guilford county as well as the surrounding areas. Nichole is happy doing the thing she loves; helping people when they need it the most and spreading kindness.

Nichole is proud to say she works daily with her significant other and company founder, Jeremy; as well as her oldest son, Tyler; sister in law, Shanell; and mother in law, Leanne. She is also a mom to a younger son, Anthony; and fur babies, including the company’s two grief support pups, Lucy and Tubbs. She is an avid world traveler who enjoys nature’s beauty and outdoor adventures. She is also fond of photography, gardening, and making new memories with friends and family. She is thankful for all of her blessings.

Funeral Director, Manager

Shanell came into Nicholson Cremation & Funeral in the first few months of its inception back in 2016. She was hired as an Administrative Coordinator. She signed on as a funeral director apprentice that same year and obtained her funeral directing license in 2019. She was homeschooled in the Alamance County area, where she has lived most of her life, and graduated with her Funeral Directors Degree in 2018 from Fayetteville Technical Community College. She is the company’s Vice President of Funeral Services.

Shanell is a married mom of six beautiful children, and one grandchild. She enjoys working daily with other members of her family including her mom, Leanne; brother, Jeremy; sister in law, Nichole; and two nephews, Tyler and Kyle. She enjoys sightseeing; antique shops; motorcycle getaways with her husband; getting lost in bookstores and cemeteries; and all things odd and spooky.

Janet Piar

Janet Piar

Office Administrator

Janet has had an interesting and diverse journey, transitioning from Silver Spring, Maryland to North Carolina and making a significant shift in her career from Information Technology to becoming the Office Manager for Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Services.

Her background in Information Technology and Information Systems for decades showcases her expertise in the IT field before she decided to make a change in her professional path. Moving to Washington, NC, with her husband, children, and dogs in June 2020 started a new chapter in her life.

Janet's dedication to family is evident from her move and the fact that her passion has always been centered around family and caring for others. It's heartening to know that she has six children and one grandchild, with four of her children already pursuing successful careers, such as a special education teacher, HVAC, Motorcycles, and a future doctor.
