Rose Evelyn Bernard, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in High Point, NC on November 4, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Montrose, Missouri on April 25, 1938, she was the daughter of Floyd and Rose Brasier. Evelyn was the oldest of three siblings, growing up in Clinton, Missouri.

She met her husband Jim of 65 years while in school in Clinton, but didn’t start dating until while she was in nursing school in Kansas City. They were married on April 23, 1960, two days before her birthday. Later in life, she was questioned why she got married so close to her birthday. She said that she didn’t want the local paper to say “Evelyn Brasier 22, James Bernard 21”, since Jim’s birthday was in July. Later in life, it was discovered that she had written in her diary in high school that she was going to marry Jim Bernard someday. God definitely brought the two together.

After their wedding, the newlyweds moved to the big city of Kansas City. After moving back to Clinton soon after, they started building their family of five children, Cameron, Craig, Caryn, Chris and Curtis. Evelyn loved her family, creating a home filled with laughter and memories.

Evelyn had a nursing career on and off over four decades, with odd jobs here and there to help support the family. She was a “smart and talented lady and loved being a wife and mother. She always said that was her “true” calling”, according to her lifelong friend from 8th grade, Beverly Britton.

Evelyn and Jim lived all over the country during their marriage. They lived in Kansas City, Clinton MO, Overland Park KS, Omaha NE, Kingwood TX, Riverside TX, Sierra Vista AZ, Cleveland TX, Lexington NC and Thomasville NC. They traveled the country, taking the family on lots of memorable vacations.

Evelyn loved her family, cooking (maybe more eating than cooking), ice cream, coffee, onions!, playing the piano (which she learned as an adult), playing cards, Westerns, traveling and most of all, pictures. She loved her pictures. She probably had 30,000 pictures, either old school prints or digital. She loved taking pictures and creating videos using different computer programs. She would have Jim slow down on the road or make a u-turn to get a picture of an old house, barn, flowers or trees. She loved the fall foliage in North Carolina and sometimes took a picture of the same tree for days in a row to capture the change in color.

What Evelyn loved more than all of that was Jesus. She shared the Gospel to anyone that would listen. She is in the presence of the Lord, probably talking the angel’s ears off or taking their picture, if heaven allows it.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Jim, children, Cameron Bernard (wife Jane) of Fernandina Beach FL, Craig Bernard (wife Marie) of Livingston TX, Caryn Chaney (husband Dan) of Lexington, NC, Chris Bernard of Porter TX and Curtis Bernard of Holly Springs NC, and brother, Jim Brasier (wife Ronda) of Springfield, MO.

She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

There will be no services. Evelyn just wanted family to gather and share memories and funny stories, which there are a lot.

Nicholson Cremation and Funeral is honored to assist the Bernard Family.
