Rodney Glenn Byars, born on December 6, 1949, in Lexington, Davidson County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Lexington Medical Center. He was 75 years old.
Rodney was the beloved son of the late George Glenn and Marietta Everhart Byars. He received his formal education through Lexington City Schools, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by dedication, faith, and love for his family.
On June 20, 1969, Rodney married Pamela Kay Russell at Park Place Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
A man of deep faith, Rodney loved the Lord from a young age. He was saved early in life and remained devoted to his spiritual journey, reading his Bible and praying for his entire family every night. Although he attended Pentecostal churches throughout his life, his devotion remained unwavering even when he became homebound.
Rodney served his community with distinction as a Lieutenant in the jail at the Davidson County Sheriff's Office for 10 years. His commitment to his work and those around him was evident in all he did.
In his leisure time, Rodney found joy in fishing with his grandson, watching Atlanta Braves baseball, and enjoying NASCAR racing. He also cherished conversations with family and friends, often spending hours talking on the phone. His special cat, Mavis Lee, held a dear place in his heart.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rosemary Byars Kepley. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Kay Byars; his devoted daughter, Jodi Byars Steed, and her husband, Jason; and his adored grandchildren, Alee Martin and Barrett Steed. He also leaves behind his sister, Anita Byars Adams, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Services to honor Rodney's life will be held at a later date. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Lexington Medical Center CCU Staff for the compassionate care they provided to their husband and father during his final days.
