"Tell them I was strong," is what Robert "Bobby" Pike (3/15/75-9/1/24) said to his beloved wife and best friend, Andrea "Cole" Pike, of 22 years. He rolled through many adversities with the determination to always look forward and never backward. Once he said, "The only time you should cut corner is when you're cutting a circle." Bobby often said if he started something, he was going to try to finish it because he wasn't a quitter. After his car wreck in 1997, leaving him a paraplegic, his focus was on how he was going to drive. A few years later, he invented the "pedal cane" and the NC DMV approved it as a restriction on on his license. Many who rode with him were apprehensive, but
realized quickly that his reflexes and agility weren't even matched by how fast electricity ran through a switch. When you met him you immediately fell in love with his charismatic personality and his ability to show you that nothing was impossible. He was someone who had a plethora of knowledge, studied it until he figured it out, and if you told him he couldn't do it, he'd show you more than once that he could. From the moment he met Andrea, he knew there was something special about her and felt every
meaningful decision he made was made with her. They truly were one person; and she was his good morning and his goodnight. Andrea and Bobby dedicated their life together to Jehovah on April 24, 2010. Bobby had one love greater than Andrea, and that was for Jehovah. He expressed to Andrea before he fell asleep in death that Jehovah has us. They both loved to share life together and support one another, go off the beaten path, and be spontaneous. Bobby felt that something good could be found in everyday life, and that to laugh is to show appreciation for something that is funny. If you were in search for something, you knew to call Andrea and Bobby, for they were known to be able to
find it or be quick to say, "I know a guy." No matter how spicy something was he could still stand it, nothing was ever hot enough. Bobby had admiration and affection for those a part of his immediate family: Friend & father-in-law, Andy "Dandy" Cole; mother-in-law & second Mom, Sibyl Collins; his Dad, Roger Barnes (Cathy);brother-in-law, Andrew Cole (Diana); and his daughter, Lindsay Kallam and grandson, Malcom. As well as his strong connection with his spiritual family and united brotherhood. He not only had an
intense love for others, but he also wanted to share with them the hope of everlasting life and to come to know Jehovah's name. Bobby once said about his battle with cancer that, "Fear is a reaction, courage is a decision," and took opportunities to share the promise of Revelation 21:3-4, that death will be no more, nor sickness, pain, and outcry; it will be a thing of the past. His hope was to bring comfort to any who are hurting due to death and to remember that it's not goodbye, but see you later.
