Peggy Lee White Cunningham

Our Mother, Peggy Lee White Cunningham, went home to be with her beloved Saviour in her 87th year on Thursday May 6th, 2023. Peggy was born to Woodrow Wilson White and Cleo Ester Beaty White on July 11, 1935. She grew up in Charlotte, NC, where she graduated from Harding High School in 1953. That same year Peggy married H.R. Cunningham, Jr. on December 18. Peggy and H.R. had two children, Kelly Dee Cunningham and Charles R. (Chuck) Cunningham.
After graduating from high school and marrying H.R., Peggy began a diverse career that included banking, teaching and legal work in real estate. Her employers included American Commercial Bank, predecessor to NC National Bank, Home Federal Savings & Load, T.A. Sherrill Construction, Hickory Grove Presbyterian Kindergarten, Walker Palmer Miller and Levine & Levine.
In addition to her family and career, Peggy's church life was important to her. She grew up in Moore's Chapel Methodist Church and Enderly Park Baptist Church, both in Charlotte. After marrying H.R. and starting a family, Peggy joined St. John's Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, where she was active in the Women of the Church in addition to multiple Bible studies and Prayer Groups. Later in life she attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church with her son Chuck in Charlotte, and Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville with her daughter Kelly.
In keeping with her faith and love of her Lord, Peggy taught her children to love the Lord our God and keep Him first and foremost in our lives; to keep our precious Saviour Jesus Christ close and show and share Him with everyone we can; and to always remember that Jonah really did live in the belly of that whale!
Our Mother will always be loved and remembered for the unforgeable and unique example she provided. Thank you, Lord, for the precious gift of having her as our mother.
A service to celebrate our mother's life will be held at Broad Street United Methodist Church, 315 West Broad Street, Statesville NC 28677. The date and time for the service have not been determined.
Memorials can be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte NC 28201. Please include a note requesting a notice is sent to Kelly Cunningham, 423 West Front Street, Statesville NC 28677.
