Pauline "Polly" Carter Lowery Ballard, 89, of Clemmons passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at The Elms of Tanglewood. She was born August 28, 1921 in Statesville and was the daughter of the late Randall A. "Jack" and Etta Carter Lowery. She was one of ten children the family raised in Iredell County and was a graduate of Cool Springs High School. During her life she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter", sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry, and was a devoted Christian, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She was married to Edward Burnell Ballard, Sr. who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Ballard was also preceded in death by infant daughter, Armenda Ballard and youngest son, Jack Ballard. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Sharon Brown and husband Dennis of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Anita Hager of Harmony, and Sarah Berke of San Angelo, Texas, a son Edward Ballard, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Lexington, a daughter in law, Susan Ballard of Germanton, twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and sisters Louise Isenhour of Clemmons, Sarah Pilcher of Mocksville, and Tib Hoots and husband Bob of Advance. Services honoring her life will be held Sunday March 6, 2011 at 2:00 pm at South Fork Church of Christ in Winston Salem, followed by another brief service and burial at 4:30 pm at Abilene Church of Christ in Statesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice and Palliative Care of Winston Salem 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103 or Albuquerque Christian Children's Home 5700 Winter Haven Dr NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. Cremation Services of Winston Salem and Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville are serving the family.
