Nell Norris Lundy, 97, was born on Oct. 17, 1913, to William Baines and Ada Sloop Norris. She died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at home in Harmony. She was married to John Coyte Lundy on Aug. 13, 1932, in Hillsville, Va. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary prior to his death in 2002. "Nellie Frances" was one of 10 children born to the late William and Ada Norris. She was preceded in death by five siblings: Mable Martin, Mary Austin, Glenn Norris, Pearl Kennedy and Blanche Privette. Nell is also survived by one brother and three sisters: William B. (Shirley) Norris Jr., Nan (Bill) Douglas, Alma Norris and Kathleen Renegar. Sisters-in-law, Margaret Lundy and Estelle Lundy also survive. Mrs. Lundy graduated from Harmony High School in 1931. She excelled in English and won a $10 gold piece for an award-winning essay. She helped open and manage the first school cafeteria at Central School. She was a seamstress and specialized in window coverings and home d�cor. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church for 77 years. She and her newlywed husband joined the church during the 1933 August revival held outdoors in the arbor. Mrs. Lundy was active in the life of the church where she taught Sunday school for most of her years at Hebron. She also helped compile a written history of Hebron Baptist Church. Mrs. Lundy was a housewife and mother of six children who survive her. They and their spouses are: Jeanne (Thad) McLelland of Forbush, Anne (Fred) Poole of Harmony, John (Martha) Lundy of Statesville, Bruce (Jan) Lundy of Yadkinville, Linda (John) Diggs of Clinton, Tenn., and Steve (Jeannine) Lundy of Yadkinville. "Granny Nell" is survived by her 13 grandchildren: Timothy (LouAnn) McLelland, Norris (Susan) McLelland, Kevin McLelland, Libby Poole Sharpe, Fred (Emily) Poole, Jr., Michael Lundy, Ken (Debbie) Lundy, Sarah Lundy, Carol (Phil) Armentrout, James Lundy, Richard Lundy, Tara Diggs Dermody, Meredith Lundy, and Seth (Krista) Lundy, Katie and Will Holt. Great-grandchildren are: Tyler, Amber, Anthony, and Harley Mclelland; Jennifer Lundy, Stephen (Tiffany) Lundy, Ashley (Nick) Bullock, Aaron Mull, Bethany Mull, Alexander Dermody and Noah and Luke Lundy, and Laura Sharpe. Also, surviving is Granny Nell's Colombian granddaughter Virginia Carbonell Fonseca & family of Zionsville, Ind. Numerous nieces and nephews from both the Norris and Lundy families survive their "Aunt Nell," whom they cherished. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday with the Revs. Darren Johnson and Bruce Lundy, and Lay Minister William B. Norris III officiating. Mrs. Lundy will be laid to rest in the Hebron Cemetery following the funeral service. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the graveside service.
