Linzee Delaney (Lane) Ledford passed away December 13, 2010, in the care of family, the attentive staff at Statesville Place, and Hospice of Iredell County. Lane had been a resident of Iredell County since 1952. Lane was a lifelong Baptist, most recently a member of East Side Baptist. His final days were marked by courage and hope. His confidence in an eternity with the Lord was an inspiration. Lane was the second son of Walter Dewitt and Myrtle McKinney Ledford who raised five sons and three daughters on a farm in the White Oak community of Mitchell County, N.C. He was born November 19, 1924. Lane was close to his brothers and sisters throughout his life, but especially so in later years. He - OR- Lane is survived by three sisters and a brother. Lane married Elizabeth Faye Burleson of Spruce Pine, NC, April 15, 1945. They were married fifty-five years prior to Faye's death December 5, 2000. From that marriage, came five children who survive: Amanda Ledford Ledbetter of Statesville; Doris Ledford Baker of Monument, Colorado; Douglas Ledford of Asheboro, NC; Fran Ledford Kyles of Fletcher, NC; and Scot Ledford of Manteo, NC. Lane was a loving father-in-law to Don Ledbetter, Tom Baker, Gail Mills Ledford, Michael Kyles, and Tricia Briggs Ledford. Prior to retirement in 1989, Lane worked at the Uniwood Division of International Paper in Statesville. He derived enjoyment from fellow employees and satisfaction from the work. After retirement, Lane enjoyed woodworking, creating many useful items for his children. Lane was a loving and patient caregiver to Faye for several years. After Faye's death, he moved to Statesville Place where he created a new life for himself. By Lane's request, sons Douglas and Scot and grandsons Donald Ray (Bo) Ledbetter, Andrew Kyles, Bradley and Douglas Baker, Chris Ledford, and great-grandson Daniel Proffitt will serve as pall bearers. Mr. Ledford's granddaughters are Betzie Ledbetter White and Maria Ledford Morrow. He delighted in his precious great-grandchildren: Daniel Proffitt and Emma White, Jesse and Molly Ledford, Maddie, Elizabeth, and Samuel Morrow. Memorial services will be held at Mt. Herman Lutheran Church, 106 Mt. Herman Rd., Statesville, on Wednesday, December 15, at 2:00. Reverend Vernon Buchanan and Reverend Tom Corbell will officiate. Prior to the service, the family will gather to greet Lane's friends and relatives at Mt. Herman Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall at 1:00. Burial will follow the service at Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wilson Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o White Oak Baptist Church, White Oak Road, Bakersville, N.C., 28705 or to Hospice or Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the Ledford family.
