James Harlan Sherrill, 87, of Dogwood Rd., Statesville, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Plaza at Edgemere in Dallas, TX. Mr. Sherrill was born September 20, 1923 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Harry Sherrill and Carrie Mae Wasson Sherrill. He was a graduate of Statesville High School and attended Catawba College. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the U.S. Army in the European Threatre. On September 4, 1948, he was married to Betty Lou Weisner Sherrill, who survives of the home. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, former member of the Administration Board and was an Adult Leader in Boy Scouts and served on the District Level. He was a retired sales representative for Wholesale Builders Supply in Greensboro and enjoyed fishing, being with friends, hunting and being with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sherrill is survived by one son, James "Jim" H. Sherrill, Jr. (Deborah) of Dallas, TX, two grandchildren, Natalie Claire Sherrill and Matthew Alexander Harlan Sherrill both of Dallas, TX, three nephews and one niece. Mr. Sherrill was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Sherrill and one sister, Hassie S. Brown. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Shuman officiating. Burial will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening 6:30-8:00p.m at Nicholson Funeral Home.
