Ms. Eva Jane Morrison Gray, 88, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House. Ms. Gray was born June 9, 1922 in Alexander County and was the daughter of the late Robert Lackey and Ola Mae Fowler Lackey. She attended Alexander County schools and she was a member of First Baptist Church. Ms. Gray was retired from Iredell Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents, Ms. Gray was also preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Morrison and also her second husband, Julius Gray, along with a son, Wendell Lackey. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Ms. Gray is survived by one daughter, Wilma Blackston of Statesville; one son, William Morrison (Michelle) of Harrisburg, PA.; one brother, Benjamin Lackey of Harrisburg, PA along with 13 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. Ms. Gray is also survived by special grandchildren who helped care for her during her final years; Robert and Ty Allison and Wade Poston, along with nieces; Janet Harris, Vanessa Lackey, Todi Lackey, and special friend, Alberta Nixon and Lisa. A service to celebrate the life of Ms. Eva Jane Morrison Gray will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, April 17, 2011, at First Baptist Church with Rev. J.C. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:30 until 2:00 PM Sunday at the church.
