David Combs

David William Combs, 56, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center as a result of an accident. Mr. Combs was born May 8, 1955 in Iredell County and was the son of Patsy Shumaker Combs and the late Charles William Combs. He was a graduate of Iredell County Schools and he was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and also attended Victory Baptist Church. Mr. Combs was owner/operator of Iredell Tree Service. David loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and enjoyed lots of friends. David lived life "his" way, but he had a heart of gold, especially for someone down on their luck. In addition to his mother, Mr. Combs is also survived by one son, Corey David Combs of Statesville; two brothers, Lanny Charles Combs and Todd Blane Combs (Marie), both of Statesville. He is also survived by one niece, Maleah Combs, one nephew, Garrett Combs, and a special friend, Phyllis Johnson of Statesville. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Bethany Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mitchell Rash, Rev. Frank Stewart, and Rev. Ervel Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.
