Cleeta (Perry) Barger

January 1, 1753 — January 1, 1753

Cleeta Perry Barger, 76, of Statesville, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital.

Mrs. Barger was born in Catawba County on September 21, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Harold C. Perry and Lena Marie Burch Perry.  She was a graduate of Burke County schools and Lenoir Rhyne College.

On April 13, 1963 she married Jerold Barger and together they shared 55 years of marriage until her passing.

She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Barger worked as a self-employed real estate broker in Delta Junction, AK where she lived and raised her family for 40 plus years before returning to North Carolina.

Mrs. Barger was a woman of many talents and she wore many hats.  She served as president of the Delta-Greely Community Coalition assigned to identify a reuse for the local military base in Alaska.  She also served as president of the Delta Junction Chamber of Commerce.  Mrs. Barger was an educator at heart.  Education was important, and she instilled that in her children.  She was a professor of Mathematics for 11 years at the University of Alaska.  She also served as president of the Delta-Greely School District from ’77 thru ’85 and volunteered as a tutor at Celeste Hinkle Elementary in Statesville.

Mrs. Barger loved being outdoors.  She had a love for fishing, especially fly fishing.  She loved to go camping and ride four wheelers with her husband.  All that life had to offer, nothing compared to her family.  Her love for her husband, children, and grandchildren was her reason for living.  Life will not be the same and she will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Fleeta Carpenter.

Along with her husband Jerold, she is survived by one son, Jeffrey Barger (Kristi) of Shelby, NC and one daughter, Laurel Cameron (Richard) of Maui, HI.  She is also survived by three grandsons, Colin Cameron of Maui, HI, Gavin Barger of Shelby, NC and Joshua Sheen (Courtney) of Fairbanks, AK.  She is further survived by three sisters, Wilda Brady of Troutman, Gale Fulbright of Hildebran, NC and Nan Johnson (Jarvis) of Clemmons, NC and her hānai family, Julie Kietzman (John) of Fairbanks, AK and Samuel Enmon, III of Phoenix, AZ.  A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
