Clara Jean Adkins, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at Hinkle Hospice House. Born on June 29, 1938, in Boone County, West Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late George and Georgia Helen Browning Workman.
Clara received her formal education at Van High School in Van, WV. A woman of the Protestant faith, she dedicated many years of her life to the yarn industry, working diligently as a winder operator and spinner. She also contributed to the aviation industry, where she worked alongside her sister building parts for airplanes.
Clara found joy in the simple pleasures of life, cherishing moments spent with her family, enjoying picnics, and playing bingo. Her warmth and love left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Stephen "Steve" Craig Workman, sisters Debra Kay Workman and Mary Ann Singleton, brothers Charlie Bill Workman, Gary Lee Workman, and Robert Ray Workman, granddaughters Candice Fine and Serena Cremeans, and great-granddaughter Jasmine.
Clara's legacy of love continues through her surviving family: her son Gary Allen Myers and his wife Patty, her daughter Teresa Wright and her husband Robert, her companion for over 50 years James Thomas, her lifelong friend (sister) Wanda McRoberts, her grandchildren Berea, Zedric, Zachary, and Stephanie, her great-grandchildren Grace, Riley, Georgia, Eliana, Elijah, Amaris, Ella, Holden, Jackie, Isabella, Clarence "Boo”, Selena, Gage, and Laura.
Services to honor the life of Clara will be held at a later date in Boone County, WV, at Greenwood Church of God with Pastor Shelia Workman (Clara’s sister-in-law) officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Davidson County in honor of Clara's memory.
Clara Jean Adkins will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit and love will forever remain in our hearts.
