It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Jane Money Stone announces her passing on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at the age of 81 years.
Betty was born on March 21, 1941, in Yadkin Co, North Carolina to the late Dwight and Zelda Money.
She graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College with a BA in Primary Education in 1965. This is when she began her remarkable career in education as a first-grade Teacher at Harmony Elementary. She completed her Master’s Degree in Counseling from UNCC in 1972. She then became a Guidance Counselor at North Iredell High School from 1972 to 1986. She continued furthering her education until she completed her Advanced Degree for School Administration for Superintendents from UNCC in 1990 while serving as an Assistant Principal at both North and South Iredell and Principal at Harmony Elementary. She finally ended her career as Principal at East Iredell Elementary School from 1992-1997. After serving as an educator for 31 years, she retired in 1997 only to return to work in Human Resources to help recruit new teachers to the Iredell-Statesville School System. She fully retired in 2005.
Betty not only served in education field for 31 years, she was also a member of Harmony United Methodist Church where she served as Special Funding Coordinator and loved spending time in fellowship with her Christian brothers and sisters. She was also an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, which is an honorary organization of women educators. Betty was a giving person who was genuinely a light for many in the community. She always had a collection of cards within reach to handwrite a heartfelt note to everyone she knew to celebrate special moments, share a laugh, or offer words of encouragement. She loved making her famous pound cakes to share with others. She enjoyed shopping, going to the beach, spending time with friends and family, and “Glam-ma” especially loved talking to and spending time with her twin granddaughters . . . and most of all, she was devoted to caring for her husband, Bob, for over 62 years. Where you would see one, you see the other. Betty truly personified love, dedication, and partnership.
Those left to cherish her are her husband, Robert L. Stone (Bob), her daughter, Traci Stone Haqq (Ken), her twin granddaughters, Sage and Sidney Haqq, and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is planned at Harmony United Methodist Church in the coming weeks.
The Stone family wishes to thank our friends and the community for their gracious love and support. For those wanting to make a donation in Betty’s honor, please consider Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County as they were instrumental in the care of Betty.
